Oatmeal and Spaghetti

The next time you are at the grocery store, please remember to pick up extra spaghetti and oatmeal for FUMCRO's donation to the North Ellis County Outreach.  Our support of these donations will enable the Oureach center to continue work and help in our community.  They are also in need of kid friendly foods: jelly, SpaghettiO's, or microwaveable foods.

Card Ministry

Was there someone missing from their usual pew on Sunday morning? Was someone absent from Wednesday activities, UMW Circle, UMM, Youth or Sunday School? Is there someone you are praying for daily?  The UMW Circle of Hearts ‘n’ Hands has a card ministry and invites you to participate. Cards will be available at the Giving Corner Table for you to use to send to those you are missing, praying for, thinking of, and wishing well.  There is a church directory with the cards so you can address the envelope. You may take it and mail it, or leave it in for the Circle to mail for you.  The Circle will make cards and purchase cards. If you have cards to donate, we will gladly accept them.   Let’s build our loving community!

ROISD Kids Mission Opportunity

During the month of May, the Missions Committee is collecting “kidfriendly” snacks and foods for ROISD kids who may not have enough to eat during the
summer since they are out of school and missing school lunches. Please place your
donations in the ROISD bucket at the Giving Corner (table just outside the sanctuary).
Some suggestions follow:

  • Easy open food/snack items such as fruit cups, applesauce cups, granola bars, trail mix, protein bars or breakfast bars
  • Microwave oatmeal, soup, macaroni & cheese, or pastas
  • Vienna sausages
  • Individual tuna packets, tuna salad or chicken salad
  • Individual cracker packs

New Neighborhood Ministry

Beginning in April, the Outreach, Hospitality & Mission (OHM) Teams will be gifting our new neighbors with a FUMCRO bag full of useful household items, church information, and an invitation to come visit us.  The bags will arrive in early April.  They will be filled with the following items:

  • Paper towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Small bottle of dish detergent
  • Vinyl gloves
  • 55 gallon trash bags
  • Scrub Brush
  • Disposable plates, cups, cutlery

The OHM teams would gladly accept donations of the items (placed in the New Neighborhood container on the Giving Corner table), or funds to purchase them.  If donating funds, please designate “New Neighbor” in the memo line or on the offering envelope.  The estimated cost per bag is $7.00.
The church is using a listing service to find newcomers to the area surrounding the church.  If you have a new neighbor and would like to personally deliver a bag to them and get to know them a bit better, see Lynne Grandstaff to receive a bag.

Hands For Christ

Hands for Christ is a program of First United Methodist Church of Red Oak that helps our neighbors in the community. Volunteers offer assistance with many varied tasks. We can help with minor home maintenance and repairs, local transportation, home office tasks, lawn care, and housekeeping.
Major workdays in the spring are the 3rd Saturday of March, April, and May. The fall workdays are the 1st Saturday in September, October, and November. Throughout the year, other dates may be available by contacting the program coordinator through the church office or online at FUMCRO.ORG.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to come serve. On designated workdays, meet at the church at 7:30 am before we head to worksites. Stay as long as you can or until the job is complete. There is always something for everyone to do! The primary objectives of this ministry are to build relationships and share the love of Christ.
